#2 - 1985 Scania K112TR
Coach #2 is a 1985 Scania K112TR with PMC "Apollo" bodywork. Initially the coach was fitted with a CAG (computer assisted gears) gearbox* (*identical to Society #41) It is unsure when that was changed, but is now fitted with 6spd Spicer crashbox (similar to what was fitted to the GM Dennings of the 80s)
It has had a few operators over it's life, new to Mackay Coach Tours QLD, then Pioneer Express VIC, Greyhound Pioneer SA, Keiths QLD and an unknown owner in Cairns QLD. Manions bought the coach in 1995 from a dealer in BNE and has been with the company since (25yrs).
After purchase with Manions, the coach was fitted with seat belts and updated the dash and interior with TV-DVD. It has been used extensively operating tours across Tasmania and was often seen operating day tours from cruise ships in Hobart and Burnie.
Manions Coaches' name is well known on the West Tamar and Beaconfield where they have operated buses for well over 60yrs. Services nowadays include numerous school services into Launceston and they provide the general access service from Beauty Point, Beaconsfield, Rowella, Deviot, Sidmouth, Robiganna, Liora, Paper Beach, Swan Point, Gravelly Beach, Exeter, Rosevears, Grindelwald, and Legana through contracts with Tas Govt.
In recent years, Bernard Manion has taken over the company which he shared with his brother Anthony, expanding with new vehicles and contracts, operating over 40 vehicles. Although they operate quite a variety of different body types and chassis, the newest vehicles in the fleet are an Australian built Express body on the reliable Mercedes Benz O500LE chassis.
However, with a downturn in tourism in recent times, Bernard Manion generously offered an older luxury coach to the Society for preservation. This coach has been with Manions for over 25 years and the Society are honored again to be offered a vehicle to preserve from a long-time operator, which will preserve their own history and name for generations to come.
