The Tasmanian Bus and Coach Society Inc was formed in 2010 in response to a need to establish a Society for bus and transport enthusiasts in Tasmania.
Objectives
The objectives of the Tasmanian Bus and Coach Society are:
- tours, rallies and public events
- promotion of the history of public transport in Tasmania
- preservation and restoration of Tasmanian public transport vehicles
- meetings for persons interested in Tasmanian public transport history and vehicles
- exchanging news, views and information related to Tasmanian public transport
Tours, Rallies and Events
The Society and its members conduct tours around Tasmania at least once a year, where members and friends can
relax whilst visiting and touring places of transport interest. Discounted rates are available for Society members.
In addition, members of the Society who own historic vehicles organise rallies to places of interest to which members
and their guests are invited to attend.
The Society will also be active in promoting the use of historic vehicles at public events in Tasmania to highlight and
showcase the development of public transport in the state.
Preservation and Restoration
The Society has been privileged to obtain a Scania N113 "Mark I" bus which was kindly donated by Metro Tasmania
Pty Limited, which the Society will restore to and maintain in operational condition for its activities and as an
example of modern public transport history. Over time the Society hopes to acquire and restore, directly or through
its members, other examples of government and privately operated vehicles that have operated in public passenger
service in Tasmania. Members are encouraged to become involved in restoration projects.
The Society aims to secure protective accommodation for its vehicles and will work with the Tasmanian Transport
Museum to offer its vehicles for periodic display.
Meetings
The Society's members meet monthly (usually at members homes) to discuss latest happening of interest in
Tasmanian public transport. Entertainment and refreshments are usually provided at these meetings.
