2012 TBCS Enthusiast Tour
Come and join us on our annual Enthusiast tour around the south of the state. Tour highlights include the magnificent Flxible Clippers, travel on the 100yr old Cartela ferry, 1960s Bedfords, big variety of school buses of various ages/styles, succulent BBQ lunches (slight exageration), spectacular scenery, hidden treasures everywhere, birds eye view of City from the Deckers along with the unknown surprises on our tours!
Day 1: Meet at Metro Springfield for transfer to Hobart via suburbs. Numerous photo opportunities enroute. Stroll historic waterfront around Salamanca, where we'll view the magnificent Flxible Clippers on display from the Flxible Clipper Club of Australia "Show & Shine". Board the 100yr old historic passenger ferry "Cartela" for a relaxing harbour cruise including BBQ lunch. After the cruise, we then travel over the Tasman Bridge to the Eastern suburbs, visiting Walkers Coaches and having a ride to outlying township of Sorell to hopefully photograph the Clippers in convoy over the causeways linking Sorell & Midway Point. Once back at Walkers, we will transfer back into our "heritage" vehicle(s) for our return back to Metro, once again via some vantage points for more photographs. Day 1 approx 1000hrs > 1600hrs
If anybody would like to join as a group and have an evening meal together (suggest Carlyle Hotel next to Metro) then please advise me when you confirm your attendance and I can make a booking. (dinner own expense)
Day 2: Meet at Metro Springfield to travel to the spectacular Huon Valley (pick-up in Hobart enroute). In the Huon Valley we'll visit a couple of school bus operators, some of which have upgraded their fleet considerably due to age restrictions on school contracts. Meet the old owners who have many stories to tell and things to show. For lunch today, we'll relax on the banks of the Huon River for another well prepared BBQ lunch. After lunch we head toward the township of Cygnet and visit O'Neills with a variety of different vehicles. As we start to turn back toward Hobart, we head over to Woodbridge to view small selection of Oakleys Coaches then back up to Snug and visit an old bus operators property (where I've been assured, there's a variety of "interesting" items to view) Starting to wind up now as we continue back to Margate where we'll change vehicles for our return back to the City. Day 2: approx: 0830 > 1630-1700hrs
Tour cost: TBCS members for both days - $55 - non-members $85 Sat only: TBCS $40 / non TB&CS $55 (includes cruise/lunch) Sun only: TBCS $25 / non TB&CS $35 (includes lunch) Special pro-rata TBCS membership rates (Apr > Jul 2012) are available for joining on the day: $20 NOTE: Overnight accommodation is NOT included in these prices. Accommodation is at your own expense. Please make tour confirmations by email to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
